Shannon Dempsey is a multimedia artist based in Rochester, NY. They explore ideas of balance through colorful palettes and loose mark-making in mediums ranging from charcoal to carefully deconstructed stretched canvas. Shannon’s biracial upbringing and queer existence has planted a fascination with the concept of duality and the balance between opposing forces. Shannon is inspired by negative feedback loops, or the ideas of tension between two opposing forces, and how the existence of each force stabilizes one another. They love exploring spectrums of contrast. Whether it involves the contrast between cultures, painted hues, or the literal pull of a string between two points, Shannon aims to create art that delights your eyes, yet asks you to think.

Shannon is passionate about pursuing a career in art advocacy and administrative work. They graduated with a Bachelors in Studio Arts from the University of Rochester in 2016. From 2018-2021, Shannon lived and worked in Houston, TX. When Shannon isn’t creating art, they are most likely to be found hanging with her cat or rollerskating around town.
